The Laboratory is the headline feature of the Second Floor update. It lets you collect DNA from patients, mix it into serums, and either throw those serums at patients or drink them yourself for strange — sometimes dangerous — effects.
The second floor (often searched as the 2nd floor) is the permanent home of the Lab, and the Animal Hospital potions you brew there — the pink and green serums — are the core of its loop. Some players call the incubation step before sequencing the culture feed: it is where the collected DNA is grown before it can be sequenced.

How to Unlock the Laboratory
- Standard mode: the second floor — and the Lab with it — unlocks after you complete your first ambulance visit.
- Skip-tutorial mode: the second floor is available from the start of the run.
- Unlocking grants you the DNA Sampler, the four DNA ingredients, and the full experiment chain (Sequencer, mixing table, and Vial Press).
- Stackable effects board: the Lab has a board listing the effects that stack rather than replace each other. It is the reference for the green serums, which build on one another when you drink several in the same run.
- Finding the stairs: the staircase up to the new floor is tucked into the shelving aisles at the back of the ground floor — community Second Floor guides place it around aisles 6–8.

Every recipe is a three-letter code built from these four items.

The 5-Step Lab Process
- Collect DNA: grab the DNA Sampler and use it on a patient in a bed. Healthy patients give a pink sample, anomalies give a green one.
- Sequence it: head to the second-floor Lab and load the sample into the Sequencer, then finish the sampling mini-game. (The pre-sequencing incubation some players call the culture feed is where the collected DNA is grown before it can be sequenced.)
- Mix: add the three ingredients in order at the mixing table.
- Press the vial: a successful mix starts a 30-second timer; when it ends, take the result to the Vial Press to produce the glass vial.
- Use the serum: throw pink serums at other characters, or drink green serums yourself.
All Animal Hospital Potions & Serum Recipes
Every Animal Hospital potion is a three-letter recipe mixed from the four DNA ingredients above. They come in two families: pink serums, which you throw at patients, visitors or NPCs to transform them, and green serums, which you drink yourself. Both tables below list every combination confirmed so far — the working list keeps growing as players test new mixes on the second floor.

How do you unlock the Laboratory in Animal Hospital?
The Laboratory sits on the brand-new second floor. It unlocks automatically after you complete your first ambulance visit. If you are playing in skip-tutorial mode, the second floor — and the Lab — is accessible right from the start of the run.
What are the four DNA ingredients?
The lab uses four ingredients, each mapped to a DNA letter: A = Pink Jelly, C = Ginger, G = Milk, and T = Purple Mushroom. You combine three of them in the lab to brew a serum.
What is the difference between pink and green serums?
Pink serums are thrown at patients, visitors, or NPCs to change them — for example TTT turns a patient into a Mimic that attacks. Green serums are drunk by you, the player, changing your own body or stats — for example GTG turns you into a Ghost and TGC lowers your detection range by 5.
How does the DNA Sampler work?
Pick up the DNA Sampler tool and use it on a patient lying in a bed to collect a sample. Healthy patients produce a pink sample while anomalous patients produce a green one. Carry the sample back to the second-floor lab and load it into the Sequencer to run the sampling mini-game.
Are all 64 DNA combinations valid?
No. There are 64 possible three-letter permutations, but only some are confirmed to produce a vial. Several combinations have been reported as unstable and yield nothing, and community sources disagree on a few of them (CAC, GTG and TCT appear on both the working and unstable lists). When sources conflict, treat the in-game result as final.

- Throwing potions: this run throws a potion at a patient and the patient turns invisible while still standing there and remaining checkable, so potions are not only single-player buffs.
- Opening the lab: the creator gets the DNA sampler and opens the laboratory early, then notes that more recipes and ingredients are expected to be discoverable elsewhere in the hospital.
- Green experiment: filling the vial and drinking it in this run ends in a dance party effect rather than a stat change.
