Medkit Types
Medkit
Full-size medkit. Restores a moderate amount of health to yourself or a patient. Available from vending machines and some locker spawns.
Small Medkit
Budget healing item. Restores a small amount of health. Cheaper than a full Medkit but less effective. Good for topping off health.
Where to Get Medkits
Vending Machines
The most reliable source. Vending machines are located in the break room (Floor 1) and near the patient rooms (Floor 2). Medkits cost cash earned during the shift. Small Medkits are cheaper and fine for minor healing.
Lockers
Floor 2 lockers sometimes contain Small Medkits. Check the hallway near Room 201 and the staff office. Requires the Floor 2 Key Card for the office locker.
Shop (Between Shifts)
The Shopkeeper Nurse sells consumables between shifts. While she does not sell Medkits directly, you can stock up on cash-earning items to afford vending machines mid-shift.
Class Perks
Head Nurse (Level 3) starts each round with all basic items, including Medkits. Surgeon restores sanity through healing, making every Medkit more valuable. These classes reduce your reliance on vending machines.
Medkit Tips
- Keep at least 2 Medkits in your inventory at all times.
- Prioritize healing critical patients (low health) over full-health patients.
- Small Medkits are cost-effective for minor damage โ save full Medkits for emergencies.
- If a patient dies, the Ghost spawns. Medkits save lives and prevent ghost encounters.
- Playing co-op? Assign one player to farm Medkits while others handle check-in. See the Multiplayer guide for team roles.
Healing Items Compared
More than one item restores health, and the differences matter more than the names suggest. Two of them restore health; the third does something no other item in the game can do.
| Item | Where from | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Medkit | Vending machine | Restores a moderate amount of health to you or to a patient. The workhorse healing item when you are treating someone rather than yourself. |
| Small Medkit | Vending machine | Restores a small amount of health. The budget top-up for when you are short on cash rather than short on time. |
| Teddy Bear | Shop, $1,010 | Revives one dead teammate, and it cannot be used on yourself. The only item that undoes a death instead of preventing one, which is why it is the most expensive thing on the counter. |
That last row is the one players misread. A Teddy Bear is not a better Medkit โ it only works on a teammate who has already died, so buying one is insurance against a run-ending loss rather than a way to keep yourself upright. If your problem is that you keep taking damage, Medkits are the answer.
Health and Sanity Are Different Problems
The most common mistake with Medkits is buying them to fix the wrong bar. Health and sanity are separate resources, they drain for different reasons, and they are restored by completely different items.
Health is lost to damage โ combat, hazards, and incidents that injure you or a patient โ and Medkits are how you reverse it. Sanity is lost to what you see and hear: anomalies, prolonged eye contact, and the environmental entities scattered through the hospital. No amount of health recovery restores a single point of sanity, and no sanity item repairs a patient.
The practical consequence is that stocking Medkits will not stop you blacking out on a bad shift, and stocking coffee will not keep a critical patient alive. Carry for both problems deliberately. If sanity is the bar that keeps ending your runs, that is a sanity item problem rather than a Medkit problem.
Medkits โ FAQ
Can you heal yourself with a Medkit?
Yes. A Medkit restores health to you or to a patient, so it works in both directions. That flexibility is why it is worth carrying even on shifts where your main job is treating other people.
Do Medkits restore sanity?
No. Health and sanity are tracked separately, and healing items do not touch the sanity bar. Sanity comes back from consumables like coffee and chocolate instead, so a player who is blacking out needs a different item, not more Medkits.
Medkit or Small Medkit โ which should I buy?
Buy to the situation. The Small Medkit is the cheaper top-up for minor damage, while the full Medkit is what you want when a patient is genuinely critical. Running only Small Medkits and discovering the gap mid-emergency is the usual way this goes wrong.
Why do Medkits matter beyond healing?
Because they prevent a second problem. A patient who dies during the shift is what causes the Ghost to spawn, so keeping patients alive with Medkits removes an entire threat from the rest of the run rather than just fixing one number.
