Tips
- Key Cards are lost at the end of each shift. You must recollect them every round.
- Prioritize the Security Key Card for weapons access โ it helps against late-shift threats.
- The Basement Key Card requires the Doctor's Key quest from Room 5.
- Co-op tip: assign one player to collect all key cards while others cover the front desk.
Which Cards Are Worth the Detour
Not every card deserves a detour. Because they all reset every shift, the real cost of collecting one is measured in the seconds it takes away from patients โ and on a busy shift those seconds are the whole game. Ranking them by what they give back is more useful than treating them as a checklist.
- Floor 1 โ effectively free. It sits in the reception drawer you already walk past, and it opens the storage room and janitor closet. There is no reason to skip it.
- Floor 2 โ pays for itself in supplies. It appears on the break room table from Shift 3 and opens the supply room and staff office. Worth collecting when your route already takes you upstairs.
- Security โ the one that changes a run. It opens the weapons locker room, which matters most on late shifts when threats stop being something you can simply avoid. Available from Shift 5.
- Basement and Admin โ story cards. Neither is about surviving the shift. Both are about seeing parts of the hospital the game deliberately keeps behind doors.
The Two Quest Cards
Two of the five cannot simply be picked up โ they are quest rewards, so the "detour" is really a multi-step errand rather than a room you swing past.
The Admin Key Card comes from Ron from Accounting's document fetch quest and opens the Administration Wing and the HR Archive Room. The Archive is worth the effort for records rather than loot โ it is one of the few places the hospital's own paperwork is readable.
The Basement Key Card is the deeper commitment. It sits in the Room 5 safe and only becomes reachable after the full Doctor's Key quest chain. Plan it as a multi-shift project instead of something you squeeze into a busy round.
Key Cards โ FAQ
Do Key Cards carry over between shifts?
No. They are lost at the end of each shift, so every round starts the collection process again. That reset is the main reason the cheap, on-route cards are worth grabbing while the distant ones are a judgement call.
Which Key Card should you get first?
The Floor 1 Key Card, because it costs you nothing โ it is in the reception drawer you already pass on the way in. After that, take the Floor 2 card when your route goes upstairs and pick up Security once it unlocks at Shift 5.
How do you get the Basement Key Card?
It is in the Room 5 safe and requires completing the full Doctor's Key quest chain before it can be reached. Because it depends on a quest rather than a location, you cannot rush it on a single shift.
Who gives the Admin Key Card?
Ron from Accounting, as the reward for his document fetch quest. It unlocks the Administration Wing and the HR Archive Room, both of which hold readable documents rather than equipment.
