Room 5 is a locked room central to the Doctor's Key quest. Solving its puzzle unlocks basement access and major story progression.

Where Is Room 5?
Room 5 is located on Floor 2, at the end of the east hallway. The door is locked and requires interaction with Ratthewto begin the quest chain. Look for a door with a faded "5" plaque and a keypad next to it.
Quest Walkthrough
Find Ratthew
Ratthew appears randomly in hallways starting around Shift 4. Talk to him and ask about 'the locked room.' He mentions his missing sister Rattina and gives you a clue about Room 5.
Locate Room 5
Head to Floor 2, east hallway. The door with the '5' plaque is your target. Examine the keypad and nearby area for clues.
Solve the Puzzle
The keypad code is hidden in nearby hints — check the bulletin board in the Floor 2 hallway for a memo with the code. The code changes each shift, but the memo always provides the answer.
Enter Room 5
Enter the code on the keypad. Inside, you find an old office with a locked safe. Search the room for the safe combination.
Claim the Doctor's Key
The safe combination is written on a sticky note inside the desk drawer. Open the safe to receive the Doctor's Key.
Unlock the Basement
Use the Doctor's Key to access the Basement Key Card (found in a nearby locker). Now you can enter the basement.
Tips
- The keypad code is always on the bulletin board memo — check it every shift.
- Ratthew appears in random hallway locations. If you cannot find him, check different floors.
- Rattina (Ratthew's twin sister) has an Animal Corp connection — her story continues in later content.
- The Doctor's Key and Basement Key Card are lost each shift. You must redo the quest every round.
- Barney the janitor may have additional hints about Room 5 — listen for his mumbling.
Lore Note
Room 5 was used by Animal Corp for "off-record" patient evaluations before the hospital was taken over. The safe contains not just the Doctor's Key but also documents hinting at what Animal Corp was really doing in the hospital. Liz the journalist is looking for this information — finding it unlocks additional dialogue with her.
Is the Quest Worth Redoing Every Shift?
The awkward part of this chain is that nothing in it persists. The code rotates, the key is lost, and the card is lost with it — so the entire six-step sequence is a per-shift cost you pay again every time you want to go downstairs. Whether that is worth paying depends entirely on what you are going down for.

The practical consequence is about when you run the chain rather than whether you run it. Because the cost is fixed and the code has to be read fresh each time, the quest is best treated as one planned block of the shift: find Ratthew, read the memo, open the safe, go down — all in one pass. Running it in pieces across a shift means paying the travel cost several times over for a single reward.

Yes. The keypad code rotates between shifts, which is why memorising a number is pointless. The bulletin board memo in the Floor 2 hallway always carries the current one.

Ratthew is the NPC who starts the chain, and he appears in random hallway locations from around Shift 4 onwards. If you cannot find him on one floor, check the others — his position is not fixed.
