The Hazmat Team Arrives ran July 25-27, 2026 and is the update that gave Animal Hospital its containment storyline.
A breach floods the hospital with toxic slime and the Hazmat Containment Squad moves in, which is the fiction that the update's content hangs off: Sam the hazmat specialist you can hire during a shift, the Slime Shift hazard that coats corridors in toxic residue, the Slimebert anomaly that disguises itself in hazmat gear, and the Tiny Mimic that hides inside medkit boxes and drawers.
The same window added the Journal Collection System, the in-game index that tracks every anomaly and NPC you encounter and pays out bonus Animal Coins for filling it in. This is also the update that brought the Firefighter class into the game.
Nothing from this window was seasonal: the breach story, Sam, the Slime Shift and the Journal are all permanent systems you can still interact with today.

Sam costs 250 Animal Coins to hire. The value comes from hiring him before contamination spreads rather than after: he clears toxic slime and repairs breakers while you keep working beds, so hiring late usually means paying the same coins for a messier floor.
What is a Slime Shift?
A Slime Shift is the hazard variant introduced in this window where toxic slime coats the hospital's corridors. It changes what you can safely ignore while moving patients, which is why slime-heavy runs punish players who only memorise a fixed route.
How do you tell Slimebert apart from a normal patient?
Scan patients in hazmat suits with the Scanner tool. The tells we track are glowing green footprints and a distorted audio frequency; if those show up, it is the anomaly and it needs verifying before it goes anywhere near a treatment room.
Is the journal still worth completing now that the event is over?
Yes. The Journal Collection System is permanent content and its bonus Animal Coins still pay out, so the entries added by this window are just part of the wider completion list you are working through.
