Animal Hospital: Medicine & Treatment

Match the symptom to the remedy โ€” the wrong dose kills

๐Ÿ’Š Core Rule

Diagnose first, then give the matching remedy from your inventory. A wrong treatment is fatal to the patient โ€” always confirm the symptom before you dose.

Symptom โ†’ Remedy Table

The standard bedside pairings. Pull the right item from your inventory for each condition:

These are used exclusively in Room 8 surgery procedures, not for routine bedside care:

Notably, Antibiotics is a surgery tool โ€” it is not a free inventory medicine you hand to a bedside patient.

Inventory & Healing Tips

Keep stocked so you never backtrack mid-rush.

  • โ€ข Stock before the shift: a ready inventory lets you adapt without running back to reception.
  • โ€ข Ointment after fires: once a room fire is out, apply Ointment to restore burned-patient health.
  • โ€ข Self-healing classes: Surgeon and Doctor regain Sanity on every heal โ€” pair them with a Medicine-heavy loadout.
  • โ€ข Wrong dose = death: when unsure, re-check the symptom rather than guessing.

The Mistakes That Kill Patients

Almost every hospital death traces back to one of these.

Because a wrong dose is fatal, treatment errors here are not small inefficiencies โ€” they are the most expensive mistake a player can make on a shift. Nearly all of them come from treating the diagnosis as obvious.

  1. Dosing before you finish reading. Several symptoms look similar at a glance while their remedies are completely different. Confirm the condition first, then open your inventory.
  2. Using a surgery tool at the bedside. Antibiotics is the classic trap: it sounds like an everyday medicine but belongs to Room 8 procedures. Offering it to a bedside patient is at best a wasted action.
  3. Treating burns before the fire is out. Ointment comes after fire suppression, not before โ€” the patient keeps losing health until the fire itself is dealt with.
  4. Guessing when you are unsure. Re-checking costs a couple of seconds. A wrong remedy costs the patient, and frequently adds a Ghost to the remainder of your shift.

The pattern behind all four is the same: treatment is a confirmation step, not a guess. If your shifts keep ending with deaths you did not expect, the patient rescue guide covers the timers that decide how long you actually have to think.

Medicine FAQ

How does the medicine system work in Animal Hospital?

After diagnosis you open your inventory and give the patient the remedy that matches their symptom. Each correct medicine clears the condition; the wrong medicine kills the patient, so you must read the symptom before dosing.

What does Antibiotics do, and when is it used?

Antibiotics is a surgery-only tool โ€” it is not a free inventory medicine. It is used during Room 8 surgery procedures alongside the Scalpel, Scissors, Organ, and Transplant, not for routine bedside treatment.

What happens if you give the wrong medicine?

Giving the wrong treatment kills the patient and counts as a hospital death (unless they were an anomaly). Always match the symptom to the remedy table before administering.

Where do I get medicine?

Most remedies are pulled from your inventory as you treat patients; Ointment also relieves burns after a fire is extinguished. Keep your inventory stocked each shift โ€” see the Items & Tools guide for shop sources.
